The Strategic Case of Climate Change for Indonesia
It is critical to frame the issue of climate change as a problem to the population. It should not be seen only as a problem to the environment, since it also poses grave challenges to social and economic development. Planet Earth has been in existence for more than four billion years and has gone through solar storms, meteor impacts and several ice ages. Several dozens of high-grade hurricanes and meters of rising sea level will not jeopardize the planet as much as it will demolish the people living on it.The window of opportunity for Indonesia to embed climate change considerations into its development plan and muster international support to undertake a low carbon development is still open – but not for long.

For all its pivotal utilities, the calendar system also sets benchmarks in our lives so that we can see our life journey in sections like days, months, and years. It enables us to review our past and plan for the future. But most of the time we do not know the full extent of what we do today will bring us in the future. Di negara dengan ketimpangan sosial yang relatif tajam seperti Indonesia, kesenjangan teknologi pun lebih terasa. Sebagian mahasiswa metropolitan kerap memeriksa surat elektronik melalui kotak ajaib seukuran telapak tangan, sementara rekan-rekan mereka di pedalaman masih belajar dengan lampu minyak. Memang, keadaan seperti itu banyak bergantung pada faktor ekonomi, tapi hal ini dapat dilangkahi dengan penerapan teknologi mutakhir yang merakyat.

The notion was made clear by the Chairman of the Indonesian Rectors Forum, Sofian Effendi in a meeting with Indonesian students and professionals during his visit in the Netherlands. The meeting that was also attended by Roch Basoeki, Presidium of Barisan Nasional, discussed the outcomes of the third Campus Convention and the ninth Annual Meeting of the Indonesian Rectors Forum (Konvensi Kampus ke-3 dan Temu Tahunan ke-9 Forum Rektor Indonesia).

Tunas Sepak Bola Indonesia Menjajal Belanda
Mungkin tidak banyak yang tahu, bahwa sudah sejak Juni 2006 yang lalu, Belanda kedatangan tamu-tamu muda dari Indonesia. Ya, tim nasional PSSI dibawah usia 23 tahun (U-23) saat ini ada di Negeri Kincir Angin, untuk mengikuti serangkaian latihan sekaligus seleksi pemain.

Perlu dicamkan bersama bahwa tidak semua institusi pendidikan di luar negeri (negara maju sekalipun) memiliki kualitas yang lebih baik ketimbang pendidikan domestik –tidak sedikit bahkan yang justru lebih rendah. Inilah mengapa ketelitian dalam memilih sekolah di luar negeri sangat penting dan tidak bisa dipilih dengan isapan jempol belaka. Jangan sampai terjadi hanya semata karena dis-informasi atau mis-informasi, putra-putri bangsa ini mubazir merantau.
